Jennifer Cheney’s Avalon Story

As the education coordinator at Avalon, I mainly work with the girls on their academics. However, this job is so much more than teaching! It's encouraging, nurturing and supporting. It's a perfect combination of all that I love and am interested in, which is social and humanitarian work, education and psychology. I feel very fortunate to be part of the Avalon team!

I love working at Avalon Hills because it's a place where people can and do make a difference! I love to be part of a team that truly cares and works for the welfare of others. It's wonderful to see our clients gradually learn, grow and find themselves again.

I love that I can share my passion for humanitarian work with our clients, as Avalon encourages their involvement in service! During one of our recent humanitarian projects, one of the clients lit up as she talked about the recipients of our work. With a big smile on her face, she said, "This just makes you feel so good!" As our clients give of themselves, they learn about themselves, discover new ways to bring happiness and satisfaction into their lives, and develop higher levels of self-esteem and psychological well-being. I believe that volunteer work is healing therapy, and I love that the Avalon clients have the opportunity to experience it and see themselves as someone who can make a difference in the world.
