About Us

Programming

Programming at Avalon Hills is very closely tied to the treatment philosophy of getting engaged in life and providing as much exposure to “real world” situations as feasible. During the workweek, we have daily didactic psychoeducational groups, daily process-oriented psychotherapy groups, nutrition didactic groups, a medical consequences of eating disorders group, body image group, an art therapy group, and equine assisted psychotherapy as well as group times with the horses that is more focused on horsemanship and time slots allotted for pet care. The primary goal of our 7AM-10PM schedule is to provide ample opportunities to gain new insights, often requiring clients to get out of their heads and engage in life activities outside of the typical therapy room. On the weekends, our programming is also structured with clients going off-site for eat out challenges, physical activities, as well as many of the social or cultural activities offered in the local area. Weekend schedules are constructed based on treatment team requests as well as client desires related to serving personal values as well as exploration of potential interests and hobbies, as this is something that has often fallen to the wayside as a result of their eating disorders. The ultimate goal relates to exposure to new opportunities for things that may contribute to our clients finding meaning in their lives once they leave Avalon Hills, a major factor in securing long-term recovery.
