Mary E. Doty, Ph.D. — Program Consultant

Dr. Doty has been closely involved with the development of the program at Avalon Hills since its inception. She created and began the Body Image component of the treatment program at Avalon Hills. She also provides staff training and program development consultations. Dr. Doty has been licensed as a psychologist by the State of Utah (#116922-2501) since 1991. Her experience with clinical services, program development, and administration spans three decades. She has been the Executive Director of the Utah State University Counseling Center since 1992, having started as a professional staff member there in 1989. In addition to maintaining her Counseling Center role, she has recently been promoted to Interim Associate Vice President for the Division of Student Services. She has expertise in the treatment of eating disorders, body image disturbance, women's issues, and traumatic stress disorders, as well as in the use of animal-assisted therapy as an adjunct to standard forms of therapy. For the last 15 years, Dr. Doty has served with the Utah Critical Incident Stress Management Team–a volunteer organization for assisting public emergency services personnel regarding the distressing incidents they are often faced with in the line of duty. She has also served as a volunteer for the American Red Cross Disaster Mental Health Program. She served two 3-year elected terms on the Governing Board of the Association for University and College Counseling Center Directors (2000-2006). She is a requested presenter around the state of Utah in her areas of expertise.
