About Us

Culinary Department

The Culinary Department is responsible for the preparation and serving of daily meals, desserts, and snacks to our clients and staff. Avalon Hills clients are introduced to a wide variety of foods through our diverse seasonal menus prepared by the Culinary Managers and Dietitians. Ethnic days are held once a month where the clients are able to put together a menu for one day featuring the food of a foreign country. Clients are involved in preparing the meal, along with shopping for ingredients and decorations according to the chosen ethnicity.

The Culinary Managers instruct weekly cooking classes which help clients learn basic cooking skills that can be utilized in everyday life. Elements of these classes include; basic cooking methods, meal planning and knife skills. Clients often go on shopping challenges with the Culinary Managers to challenge fears and learn grocery shopping skills.

The Culinary Department is known for its participation in Cache Valleys Annual Chocolate Festival. Each year the clients prepare and enter a dessert in the contest, which has been won for the last three years in a row. Overall, clients are taught the importance of enjoying food. As a department we strive to pass on our passion and enjoyment of food and cooking to the clients of Avalon Hills.
